Clerk’s Report January 2015

REPORT FROM ELAINE PRIESTLEY – CLERK TO LAPWORTH PARISH COUNCIL

LAPWORTH PARISH COUNCIL REPORT

A bid has been submitted to the Community Forum seeking funding towards the cost to repair or replace nine of the noticeboards in Lapworth.  All being well and funding granted work should be able to start in the spring, giving the noticeboards a new lease of life.  The Lapworth Parish Council noticeboards are for public use and particularly encouraged is the promotion of local and charitable events.

Superfast Broadband was progressing with a number of cabinets in Lapworth now going live.  A full report is contained elsewhere in the magazine.

The Parish Council agreed to reopen the toilets in Bromehall Lane canal site from 28th March for the summer season.

Cllr Henderson reported that work to dredge the canals would commence on 15th January and that:

Length to be dredged is Lock 14 to Lock 19.

The area to be dredged will include the full width of the short pounds.

The silt is unsuitable for spreading to agricultural land and will be disposed of to landfill – attempts had been made to find suitable, cost effective re- use for the dredgings but to no avail so far.

The off-loading point will behind The Old Bakehouse in Mill Lane – traffic management signage will be placed strategically to warn of lorries turning etc.

A banksman will supervise towpath users through the working area when work is in progress.

The canal will remain open, though there will be some delays when dredging is in progress in the lock approaches.

The Parish Council meets the second Monday of each month at 7.30 in the Village Hall

2015 dates 9th February, 9th March (preceded by the 2015 Parish Assembly), 13th April, 11th May
