Clerk’s Report September 2016

LAPWORTH PARISH COUNCIL REPORT

During the summer representatives of the Parish Council had met with the management of the Boot, regarding their annual Bonfire Night event. The Parish Council appreciates that this an event that many in the community enjoy but wished to work with the Boot to minimise disruption as last year there were some complaints regarding traffic flow and parking issues.

Measures put in place by the Boot include risk assessments, consultation with neighbours, and employment of car parking stewards. Having met the Parish Council was satisfied that the Boot were taking all reasonable steps to reduce, as far as possible, disruption to village life but are interested to hear feedback on specific problems or suggestions for future years from residents.

As we enjoy a warm September day the County Council is preparing for the winter ahead and looking to organize snow wardens for our Parish.

As a snow warden you can either enlist help from your neighbours to clear pavements, drives and cul-de-sacs to assist the local community, or just simply spread salt to steep inclines or areas of high footfall to assist your community.  This will let the council focus on the primary gritted routes used by 90 per cent of the county’s traffic. It will still grit the main routes; go to http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/gritting to view live updates during the winter months. The snow warden scheme is a practical way of getting resources to areas that are more isolated and will be based on local knowledge as a priority to the community. Should you be interested in carrying out this valuable role please contact the Clerk for further details.

Please refer to www.warwickshire.gov.uk/snowwardens for self-help and how to clear snow and ice safely.

After a successful property marking event our Local Safer Neighbourhood Team is looking to reignite the Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Lapworth and seeking volunteers to become co-ordinatores

As a co-ordinator you will be responsible for:

  • Receiving e-mails from your Safer Neighbourhood Team with details of incidents in Lapworth.
  • Passing these e-mails on to local members of your Neighbourhood Watch.
  • Initial recruitment of members.

If you are interested in becoming a NHW co-ordinator contact PCSO Hall on 01926684397, or email on matthew.hall@warwickshire.pnn.police.uk

The Warwick District Council Chairman is seeking nominations for one woman within each Parish who is considered to be inspirational in the Parish. She may be working in the Parish in a voluntary or statutory capacity; she may be involved in a specific project or job. Or she may be one of the many women who is selflessly working to support women and girls in your area. The outstanding characteristics looked for will be compassion and determination and an ability to forge new activities for women.

All nominations will be judged by a panel of independent judges outside of Warwick District Council. The award will be made in May 2017 and an appropriate prize will be awarded for the most inspirational woman in Warwick district and a small prize for each Parish winner. Please contact the Clerk if you believe you know an inspirational woman and would like to know more about the award.
