Clerk’s Report February 2017

LAPWORTH PARISH COUNCIL REPORT

Consideration is still being given by the District Council in relation to the proposed development at Aylesbury House Hotel site. The Parish Council has written giving its support for the development, as indeed have many local residents, as there are concerns regarding the site further deteriorating if the planning application does not go ahead.

Councillor Mrs Compton reported that the Council Tax budget had been set with a total increase of 3.99% for the forthcoming year.  As ever the County is managing a significant cut in government funding over the next four years and facing further staff cuts.  However against this backdrop a commitment to recruit additional social workers had been made and the Council had been placed in the Top 100 Employers of Apprentices.

Update from the District Council in relation to the local plan indicated that an approved plan could be adopted by late summer if all goes smoothly.  Works are progressing on the refurbishment of Leamington and Warwick Swimming Pools.  Newbold Comyn at Leamington has been closed completely for the duration of the works, whereas the Gym and Fitness suites at St Nicholas Centre in Warwick remains open.

Damage to Bridge 31 (Pinners Bridge) on the Stratford on Avon Canal, which is the road bridge on the B4439 road, Old Warwick Road, Lapworth has been reported to the County Council who are arranging remedial works. The brickwork parapet is currently stable but as there is significant frost damage to the parapet brickwork. So a decision has been made to to replace the parapet and carry out some additional brickwork repairs whilst a scaffolding system is in place. Work is likely to take four weeks but as yet the start date is not known.

Still with the canals, the Canal and River Trust has been successful in its bid for funds to upgrade a section of the canal towpath between to improve the stretch of canal towpath between Kingswood Junction and the Boot to give it a firm flat stone based surface.
