The June meeting of the Parish Council welcomed Warwick District Council Councillor Mrs Sue Gallagher and Coucillor Peter Whiting who will represent the Arden Ward and hence Lapworth’s interests at the District Council.
They were immediately faced with questions from Parish Councillors as the Local Plan Inspector had raised significant concerns in relation to the Warwick District Council Local Plan. Key areas of concern were the predictions for ‘windfall’ development opportunities and the identified but unmet housing need in Coventry and Warwickshire that is required to be addressed jointly with other authorities in the area before the Plan can proceed. The Leader of the District Council is lobbying local MP’s to minimize delays whilst Council Officers are giving consideration to the options for moving forward. An assurance was given that pending the adoption of a Local Plan there was a presumption that Green Belt would be protected.
Concerns had been received regarding the safety of local pedestrians and cyclists during the swathe of participants passing through as a result of the Dorridge Fun Run taking place on Lapworth’s leafy lanes.
The Parish Council supported the efforts being made by Willpower Garage in clearing the stream that runs through the premises and alleviating flooding risks.
Following Cllr Child’s attendance at a recent Community Forum meeting he was able to report that he had secured some additional increased police presence for Lapworth over the summer months.
Notice had been received from the County Council to stop up part of the highway, adjoining Bushwood Cottage, which is no longer necessary for public use, due to this part of the highway not having been used as highway. County Cllr Mrs Compton advised that the order was being made in response to ongoing concerns regarding motorcycle usage. Further details are available for Warwickshire Legal Services on 01926 412616
