LAPWORTH PARISH COUNCIL REPORT
On a positive note to start the new year Cllr Rees reported that the Vaccination Program at Studley Village Hall was up and running, largely attributable to the efforts of Dr Rowland, to whom thanks were expressed.
Just over 1000 people received their first Pfizer vaccine over the previous weekend at the Studley Village Hall site. These were from across the 7 GP Surgeries in the Arden Primary Care Trust.
A further delivery of vaccines is expected on Tuesday and another 1000 people are being booked in for Wednesday and Thursday in anticipation.

A question has arisen as a result of some parishioners receiving phone calls from the NHS inviting them for their vaccination at the Birmingham Curzon Street hub. We are advised that you are very welcome to take up this offer if you wish but that you should be aware that there is little local car-parking and you will therefore have to walk a fair distance. If you prefer you can wait to be called by the Studley Village Hall appointments organisers. Please though do make sure that you make it clear if you are not going to attend an appointment so that the vaccine and the slot allocated to you are not wasted!
The Parish Council has received an enquiry as to whether local residents would be interested in ‘adopting’ Lapworth Train Station.
Station adoption is when a group of volunteers, or an existing community group or organisation, ‘adopts’ a station, getting local people involved in the station and railway through volunteering. At least 1,000 of these station adoption or ‘station friends’ groups have been set up, covering well over a third of Britain’s stations.
Station adoption groups make a valuable contribution, helping communities get the most from their stations, and turning stations and their surroundings into welcoming, thriving and celebratory gateways and hubs. Their activities vary, but they often include:
- community gardening, food growing and biodiversity projects on station land;
- installing heritage boards or community artwork to help people learn about and take pride in their area;
- basic upkeep and litter-picking to create a welcoming, safe environment;
- working with the rail industry towards improvements, such as better shelters, signage or pedestrian and cyclist access, or sometimes spearheading larger-scale developments.
In the first instance the parish Council is looking for any expressions of interest in forming a group that would ‘adopt’ Lapworth Station. Please contact the Clerk if you are interested in finding out more about what is involved.
This time of the year potholes are frequently reported. The County Council has advised that it is changing its reporting its reporting processes ‘to integrate with corporate systems and improve the customer experience’. In future the following two links may be used:

The next meeting of the Parish Council is scheduled to take place on Monday 8thFebruary at 7.30pm remotely via Zoom. Meetings are held at the same time on the second Monday of each month.
